Reconnecting Neighborhoods
Reconnecting Neighborhoods
a plan for the crossings of I-94 between Seward and the West Bank
Reconnecting Neighborhoods is a community planning process aiming to improve the crossings of I-94 between Seward and the West Bank for people walking, biking, and driving. The project focuses on the five main crossings of I-94 in the area: Cedar Avenue South, 20th Avenue South, the pedestrian bridge near 22nd Avenue South, 25th Avenue South, and Riverside Avenue. Redesign started the project in early 2017 with many partners:
- West Bank Business Association
- Seward Neighborhood Group
- Seward Civic and Commerce Association
- Seward Towers Corporation
- Augsburg University
- Minnesota Department of Transportation
- Hennepin County Public Works
- City of Minneapolis Public Works
- Alta Planning + Design (consultants)
The project is led by two committees. The Management Committee, which meets monthly, is made up of neighborhood and public works staff, and provides day-to-day leadership of the project. The Steering Committee meets every two months, and its elected and appointed officials from the Minnesota Legislature, the Metropolitan Council, Hennepin County, and the City of Minneapolis provide high-level guidance for the project. At the end of the two-year process, the committees will publish a report describing preferred improvements, possible funding sources, and a feasible schedule for construction.
